WELCOME to the Grand Convention, First-Timers!

Did you know that every chapter within Alpha Delta Pi is given a chapter flag to be used during a processional tradition as part of our bi-annual Grand Conventions?  This tradition was instituted in 1941 by Grand President Caralee Strock Stanard.  The tradition of calling the chapter roll with a parade of flags, known as the Adelphean Processional, began in 2001 at our 150th Anniversary Convention.  The parade of flags pays tribute to all chapters on our roll since our founding in 1851.

During this biennium, we have added four new chapters to our chapter roll who will attend their first Grand Convention and join the parade of flags for the first time.  This is a significant milestone for our sisterhood as these four chapters also mark the start of the Iota chapter roll!  Be sure to take special notice as the following newly installed chapters proudly join the Adelphean Processional for the very first time this June:  Iota Alpha – University of Texas at San Antonio; Iota Beta – Campbell University; Iota Gamma – University of California, Davis; Iota Delta – Sewanee: The University of the South.

During the processional, all chapters, including closed chapters, are represented.  Alumna members have the honor of carrying the flags of closed chapters.  In addition to the chapters mentioned above, we will also celebrate the return of the Omega chapter flag to the processional to be carried by the collegiate chapter president.  As one of Alpha Delta Pi’s oldest chapters, Omega Chapter at Louisiana State University was first installed on May 29, 1914 as the second NPC sorority on the campus.  Sadly, the chapter closed in 1985.  This year, our sisterhood celebrated Alpha Delta Pi’s return to LSU and the reinstallation of the Omega chapter on February 11, 2017, which completed ADPi’s roster of chapters on all SEC campuses.  Although the Omega flag has always been represented and carried by an alumna, this will be the first time in the history of the parade of flags that Omega’s flag will be carried by a collegiate member!

The Adelphean Processional is a favorite Convention tradition for many Alpha Delta Pi members.  Most attendees feel great joy and pride as they witness the parade representing our 160 active collegiate chapters across the United States and Canada (the largest number of active chapters at any one time in the history of our sisterhood!).  Without a doubt, however, there is a new and different sense of pride and excitement as the newest chapters within our sisterhood march in to conclude the parade.  We hope you will show our newest chapters how welcomed they are in Alpha Delta Pi as we welcome their chapters to Grand Convention for the first time!

Can’t wait to see you in Hollywood this summer Iota Alpha, Iota Beta, Iota Gamma, Iota Delta, and Omega!
