I had the opportunity to serve as an Executive Office Intern in 2007, the summer before my senior year. I was also serving as Chapter President at the time, and I remember my Province Director announcing about the Intern opportunity during our Province Meeting at DLC. I thought this would be a great opportunity to learn more about ADPi, spend time in Atlanta, and gain some experience for my resume.
As it turns out, I was the only Intern for that summer! I have a different experience than all other Interns because I was alone, but being an EO Intern is what sparked my involvement as an alumna member (#notjust4years). As an Intern, I was encouraged to apply to be a Leadership Consultant. Had I not been an Intern, I definitely wouldn’t have applied! Fortunately, I was selected as an LC for the 2008-2009 school year. Quite a few former Consultants and Interns end up serving as advisors and International Officers, and that was definitely true for me. I’ve been involved with ADPi in some capacity ever since I graduated college! And it all started with my EO Intern experience!
During my time at EO, I was able to help prep for Convention, which I was attending as a voting delegate. It was so unique to see the back-side of Convention and all of the work that went into preparing for the week. Learning the background information and some of the fun traditions of Alpha Delta Pi’s Convention allowed me to have an even more unique experience at Convention! To say the least, my appreciation for our sorority’s traditions was taken to a whole new level!
My favorite part of being an EO Intern was digging through the Archives. ADPi’s history is so rich with interesting facts, funny stories, and unique sisterhood activities. Being able to look through, not only my chapter’s history, but the sorority’s history in general was very fun! (This was before our Archives were digitized).
As you can see, being an Executive Office Intern is definitely worth exploring! As the program has evolved over the years, it’s fun to hear more Interns’ stories and experiences! Plus, living in Atlanta at Executive Office for part of the summer is pretty awesome!
