Why I Fall for Fall

Fall. Just the word makes me happy. And when the season actually arrives, well – happy doesn’t even come close to describing it in my book.

I just love everything about autumn – the flavors, the brilliant colors, the crisp air, and pumpkin everything. And I love all the fall feelings of sisterhood that the season brings – makes sense since I started my Alpha Delta Pi journey in the fall in a place where orange translates into autumn leaves and school spirit.

So here are some of my favorite things about what really is the season of sorority and spectacular scenery for me.

@ADPIUF

  • You have to start with this fabulous ambassador of fall that you can carve, put in a pie or on your porch, add to your coffee or eat in an endless variety of foods (preferably the dessert kind). And those little candy shaped pumpkins that taste like candy corn? Just like a little piece of pumpkin heaven. I guess you could say I’m a Pumpkin Pi.
  • Chants of “Pi, Pi, ADPi” and the words to “Boom Boom” always remind me of the humid fall days of my recruitment – more than a few years ago but always seems more like yesterday in my mind.
  • Being a Southern girl, we actually think of football as a season in and of itself – especially when it means spending quality time cheering on your team with your sisters. Some of my best memories of my time spent in the chapter involve football, homecoming and midnight float assembly!
  • As a chapter advisor, one of my favorite fall events is initiation. I love our ritual and its sweet simple message of friendship, love, sisterhood and dedication to the ideals we hold so dear and that bond us from one generation to the next. If I close my eyes, I can transport myself back to a fall day not so long ago when my mother and I saw my niece become our sister in a tradition dating back to 1851. And each October, I see the same wonder that I observed on my sweet niece’s face when she was initiated and treasure this special sisterhood anew.

    Fall also means a transition to lots of things I love – warm sweaters and scarves and boots for the crisp autumn weather, a fire to cozy up to, the holidays approaching and the excitement those bring, trick or treaters and just Halloween in general. What’s not to love about a holiday where you get to dress up in a fun costume and have a legitimate excuse to eat all the candy you want?
  • Another fall transition I love in Alpha Delta Pi is new officers and the exciting ideas they bring to our chapters. When people ask me why I’m an advisor, one of the main reasons is this – watching these special sisters take the helm of their chapter’s leadership and combine new ideas and excitement with the time-honored traditions that have made us the first and finest for generations of college women.

I could go on and on about my love for all things autumn and ADPi, and I bet you’ve already thought of a few fall favorites that I’ve forgotten. But the smell of some pumpkin pie and the taste of a pumpkin spice coffee are calling my name, so happy fall y’all!
