We’re flashing back this #FoundationFriday to last fall when Omicron Chapter at Duke University held their fabulous ADPumpkins event!

Who: Omicron – Duke University

What: ‘ADPumpkins’

When: October 21, 2016

How many times has this event been held? This was our first time! ADPumpkins2

Tell us about your event. ADPumpkins was a new Fall philanthropy event for Omicron this year. We catered pies (apple and pumpkin) and cookies (pumpkin white chocolate chip, snicker doodle, and many others) from one of our favorite restaurants in Durham, Foster’s. We also brought apple cider for everyone to enjoy. ADPumpkins also included painting mini pumpkins and apple bobbing! One of our sisters made an amazing balloon pumpkin to use in photos so we had a lot of fun taking pictures with everyone at the event. At the end of the event, we brought all of our leftover food and decorations to our local RMHC to help them decorate for Halloween. Overall, it was a fun new way for us to raise money for RMHC and spend time with our sisters and other friends on campus!

How did you involve the entire chapter and get them excited? The entire chapter worked different shifts at the event – helping to collect money, paint pumpkins, take photos, and distribute food. We talked about the event during chapter in the weeks leading up to it to make sure everyone knew when it was happening and was getting excited about it. We also took a poll among sisters to determine which activities they thought would be the most fun to have at the event.

ADPumpkins3What was your favorite part of this event? That we were able to spend some fun time together as sisters in the middle of a busy semester and raise money for RMHC at the same time – enjoying good food and taking time to do something fun and silly like decorating pumpkins and bobbing for apples!

What tips would you offer to other chapters planning a similar event? Be creative and see what activities your chapter wants to do – there are a whole bunch out there it’s just about finding the ones you think will be most successful on your campus! Also, definitely start planning early because there are a lot of different parts of the event to coordinate.

Are you holding the event again this fall? This fall, we’re trading in pumpkins for puppies and actually bringing back our ADPuppies event – making it a larger and more signature event. It will be at the end of October, so stay tuned!
